A STAR WAS BORN....

 14.08.2025

A STAR WAS BORN….È NATO UN DIVO!!!!

Between 1958 and 1968, when I lived in Melbourne, I often went to the movies on Saturday afternoons.

From my house, I walked through Edinbough Gardens, and right on a side street near the school I attended, in Clifton Hill, was the cinema. My parents trusted me and allowed me to go alone, but I was never without the company of a few of my classmates in the theater.

And it was there that I discovered the King of Rock, Elvis Presley. He became my idol, and not just for me.

I was never tired of watching his films. I was enchanted by the way he danced with his agile and effortless moves while singing and playing the guitar. He had dark hair, green eyes, and masculine figure exuded an irresistible charm. He wore clothes  never seen before, with fringes and studs, which drove all his fans wild.

The film  which I still remember even today, sixty years later, is "FOLLOW THAT DREAM."

The plot wasn't spectacular, but the lyrics and music of his songs touched my heart.

Unfortunately, his life wasn't a beautiful dream. His life ended too soon. On August 16, 1977, before his 50th birthday, alcohol and drugs had consumed him.

After many years since I saw him on television, weighed down and unrecognizable. He was no longer the boy I had admired as a teenager.

When I learned of his death, a tear rolled down my face.

In 2022, his biography was released in theaters.

I listened attentively to the interview with Austin Butler, the actor who played Elvis. I was enchanted by the time he spent studying the character he wanted to play, and he revealed so many dark sides of this star.

For me, as a little girl then, Elvis was immortal.

AH, L'ESTATE.....

 DAILY DIARY....

Ah, l'estate!

I mesi estivi hanno sempre “sold out” di eventi: rassegne
letterarie, mostre, sagre, concerti, spettacoli teatrali e cinema all'aperto animano le nostre serate.

Ah, the summer!

The summer months always have sold-out
events: literary festivals, exhibitions, parades, concerts, theater
performances, and cinema in open-spaces, giving life to our evenings.

There's truly an embarrassment of choice
for anyone looking to spend some free time.

Schools also close for the holidays. For
students of all ages, it's a relief to be away from their books, especially
those who have been studying hard for their end-of-year exams. For them, the
desire to get moving and make the most of the summer days is strong.

During this time, I can't help but remember
summers of the past. I think of the women of the HISTORIC CENTER who, after
tidying up their homes, would meet on hot afternoons and spend time together in
the breezy "cariole" or on the cool "Aietta." They would
sit in the shade, precisely under a carefully tended altar dedicated to the
Madonna.

June, July, and August were the hottest
months.

The young boys and girls of those years
would gather in the narrow streets and small squares. They would leave their
homes at any hour of the day to spend time together, always finding a friend
waiting for them.

Between group games, rope jumping, and
having fun, they kicked a ball against the wall of the nearest house,
pretending it was the goal. They regularly angered the owner with the violent
thumps of the ball that thundered inside the house. At that point, many voices
could be heard shouting and children running away.

Their days were very attive.

In the evenings, they sat quietly on the
walls, looking for a "a new born love" to experience their first
kiss, their eyes turned towards the full moon, accompanied by the chirping of
crickets. There were even those who hunted for fireflies to place them under a
glass, hoping that when awakening, it would be magically transform into a coin
for an extra ice cream the next day.

Along with them, the Grandmothers were  present in this place.

They would leave the house carrying their
little chairs and, with skill, would embroider a sheet or crochet to create
unique pieces for the trousseau of the first granddaughter who would marry.
Curious girls, like my daughter, would sit near them and learn this art.

Their supervision of the children was
indispensable for parents that were at work, and without them there would have
been no snacks prepared with love for the little ones.

LA GENTILEZZA.....

9.08.2025

Quanta gentilezza hai dimostrato?

Hai ricevuto gesti gentili?

Gentilezza porta Gentilezza!!!

TRANSLATION:

In my working life, kindness was the foundation for good relationships with superiors and colleagues. After many years of experience working alongside other workers, I realized that the essential secret to living harmoniously in a factory was kindness. Sometimes, just a smile to mate you met upon entering in the establishment was enough to make the day a success. Spending eight hours a day, for many years, with the same people, you establish a special friendship.  We often brought personal problems in this place, and so the kindness of listening was often a good way to help.

Kindness doesn't mean "giving the other cheek" or always saying "yes." There are people who require special consideration; sometimes, for them, kindness is a must. Even so, we may not see immediate positive results, but little by little, with patience and the right attitude, it will be perceived.

Every day, the news tells us stories of people's indifference. In these situations, sometimes the fear of acting can push away the desire to protect the other, and it makes us think that perhaps it's not worth being kind in that moment.

Kindness is indeed necessary. Growing up in a family without that kind gesture that only Mom and Dad can give makes life difficult. Kindness at home sets a good example for society.

I have no doubt that from my family I can only remember many kind words and attitudes. During the saddest moment of my life, I was surrounded by kind people. They filled me with kindness. I felt it when, with their sincere loving hug, I felt the emotion through the strong beating of their heart against my breast.

For me, kindness is giving my time to others with small gestures: talking, telling stories, listening. It's holding a child's hand and amazing them through reading a story.

Being kind brings a feeling of inner well-being. Making people happy and seeing them express gratitude with a beautiful smile remains a unique satisfaction.

Kindness breeds Kindness!!!

QUATTRO DONNE UN SOLO FILO INVISIBILE.....

5.08.2025...

TRANSLATION:

Clementina (1923) knew the hardship of factory work. At fifteen, she was already marked by the weariness of working shifts. She knew the morning air smelling of fresh bread, and she heard the bells in the church tower ringing the hour of awakening. She washed at the public wells and hung out her laundry where it would dry best. Her dreams were simple: marriage to an honest husband and a family to care for. Then came the turning point of emigration; she had gone very far, and she felt a strong desire to write letters every week to stay in touch with her loved ones in her hometown.

Emma (1953) was fifteen and rode the tram around the city. She was studying to become a secretary, and the sound of the typewriter clicking and the smell of fresh ink were very familiar to her. Her clothes were very different from her mother's; she wore a miniskirt. She dreamed of working in a big office, with a telephone on the desk, a husband in a suit and tie, and maybe even have her own car. Emma was the epitome of the economic boom, looking to the future with optimism. Her dreams were made of opportunity, choices, and an independence yet unexplored.

At fifteen, Tania (1974) was cleaning with the  vacuum. Her life was a mix of rock music, school peace demonstrations, and nights at the disco. She didn't use her hands to tie a weaver's knot, as her grandmother Clementina did, but to hold a pen and play in the volleyball team. Her grandmother Clementina told her stories of sacrifice that seemed like legends from another era, while her mother Emma spoke to her of a world that was opening up to women. Tania, however, wanted more. She dreamed of traveling, of studying at university, of changing the world. She was the first to fight for her ideas. She was the daughter of an era of revolution and great social change.

Chiara (2014) is eleven years old and walks with a smartphone in her hand. She only knows by telling the story life of her great-grandmother Clementina and her grandmother Emma. For her, it's a black-and-white movie. Chiara's life is made up of videos, video games, and programming lessons. With a click, she can see any part of the world, talk to friends on the other side of the planet, and learn anything online. Her world is fast, connected—Sky, Facebook, Instagram, desktop, laptop, smart TV, tablet— full of information. Her dreams know no bounds: to become a YouTuber, a scientist, or a designer. She was born into a world where every option is within reach, but also where the speed and multitude of choices can sometimes lead to confusion.

DAILY DIARY.....IL CORREDO DI UNA VOLTA.....

DAILY DIARY.....

In 2018, the Circolo Culturale Tognotti decided to organize a beautiful exhibition of the art of embroidery, dedicated to the embroiderers of our town and beyond. The location chosen for the event was the beautiful Villa Simonini in the main square of Gallicano, a perfect setting for the exhibition.

Our grandmothers once, dedicated great patience and skill to preparing the trousseau for future brides. This custom has been forgotten over the years, but all the works created from their hands are precious pieces. Each embroidery, each fabric, tells the story, the traditions, and the roots of the community...

My mother, Clementina, was an embroiderer, and all the embroidery she gave to the family has great sentimental value for me. I could tell a story for every stitch she made, because I remember every occasion and place of her work.

I still remember finding her sitting at the kitchen table embroidering, with a spread of colorful threads in front of her, the ones she used for her work: tablecloths, sheets, curtains, pillows, and blankets.

DAILY DIARY. QUANDO LA MAMMA HA BISOGNO DI AIUTO

DAILY DIARY:

Contenta?”.

Contenta?”

“Boys, before you go out, make your beds!”. Here is the voice of Mm as soon as she wakes up. “You know that the room needs a touch of order, remember to fold your pajamas like Grandma taught you, and don’t forget to put the dirty clothes in the appropriate basket. Even these small gestures help to make the room tidy, even more so if the house is small”.

The three brothers listen and make some discontented comments, but they knew very well that helping in the family is for the good of all. They agree among themselves to do other jobs making themselves useful, especially when their parents are out for work, and come home tired.

Lorenzo, the eldest of the three, takes charge of the situation to manage what needs to be done.

“Chiara, you set the table, while I put the water on for the pasta”, he said, opening the cabaord to get the pot.

She replied a little resentfully, “Why don’t you tell Philip? He never sets the table!”.

“He’ll clear the table and put the dishes in the dishwasher. Are you happy?”. The big brother replies loudly.

Philip appears in the room with the salad to wash in his hand, and exclaims “Oh Chiara, what a pain in the ass you are”.

Lorenzo at that point immediately resolved, “Don’t worry Chiara, he’ll clear the table and put the dishes in the dishwasher. Are you happy?”

The eldest likes to cook and for lunch he prepared a nice carbonara, and for the second course a Milanese cutlet with a side salad, the one Filippo had washed carefully.

The three brotherss sat at the table enjoying the meal and complimenting each other on the work done as a team.

Once lunch was over, they were well organized; everyone knew what to do to leave the kitchen clean in a flash, with everything in its place.

When the parents returned home, their delicious lunch was waiting for them too, and everything was neatly arranged around them.

They knew they could count on them and were very proud of their children.
