When I enter a church, the first thing I notice is the corner where the candlestick is placed. The light of the lit candle symbolizes: faith, spirituality, hope and prayer.

The church of San Giovanni Battista is located in the historic center of the town. It has two entrances, the main one is located on the road that takes to the Aringo, where from that height you can admire the whole village. The other entrance has three steps at the door, and is in the small square surrounded by stone houses. This temple is less impressive than the Cathedral of San Jacopo, but the costruction of the church carries with it a lot of history.

I remember  the luminous church of St. John's the Baptist in Melbourne which is much different. It was located next to the school I attended for 10 years, (1958/68) which I recently revisited in 2023.

 

Quando entro in una chiesa, la prima cosa che noto è l’angolino dove è predisposto il candeliere. La luce della candela accesa simboleggia: fede,  spiritualità, speranza e preghiera.

La chiesa di San Giovanni Battista si trova nel Centro Storico del paese. Ha due entrate, quella principale è situata sulla strada per raggiungere l’Aringo, dove da quell’altezza si può ammirare il paese intero. L’altra entrata, con tre scalini alla porta, sta nella piccola piazzetta circondata da case in pietra.  Questo tempio è meno imponente del Duomo di San Jacopo, ma la costruzione della chiesa porta con sé tanta storia.

Ricordo la luminosa chiesa di St. John’s the Baptist in Melbourne che è molto diversa.  Si trova accanto  alla scuola che frequentai per 10 anni, (1958/68). L’ho rivisitata di recente nel 2023.
